default Picture Control settings

Does anyone know where to find the original factory settings for each of the various Picture Control modes (standard, neutral, vivid, portrait, landscape, flat, and monochrome)? I know the underscore character shows the previous setting for each of the parameters (sharpening, contrast, saturation, etc.), but if the settings are modified multiple times, then it is no longer possible to go back to the factory original settings. Using the "reset" feature appears to just return everything to zero.

Default Picture Control settings on a camera determine how it processes captured images. These settings, like Standard, Neutral, Vivid, Monochrome, and Portrait, offer various options for color balance, contrast, and image appearance. Standard provides a balanced look, Neutral is subdued for post-processing flexibility, Vivid intensifies colors, Monochrome captures in black and white, and Portrait emphasizes skin tones. Users can often customize these settings based on personal preferences or specific photographic needs, adjusting parameters like contrast, saturation, and sharpness in the camera's menu or settings.

Hi msallen,

It sounds like you’re looking to restore the original factory settings for the Picture Control modes. You’re right that resetting doesn’t always return everything to the default settings as expected.

Unfortunately, most cameras (like those from Nikon) don't offer an easy way to restore the factory Picture Control settings if they've been modified. However, one workaround is to check the camera’s manual or the manufacturer's website, as they sometimes list the default values for each Picture Control mode (sharpening, contrast, saturation, etc.).

Alternatively, you could manually set the parameters back to their defaults based on what’s listed for each mode in the camera's settings. If that’s not possible, some users suggest saving your preferred settings as custom profiles to avoid losing them in the future.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more assistance.

Best,
Kera
